Session Abstract
The work of engineers forms the link between scientific discoveries and their subsequent applications to human and business needs and quality of life. The field of forensic engineering can best be described as a failure investigation when this application is not perfect. While engineering is primarily tasked with designing and constructing products that will be sound and will operate safely, failures can still occur. Even with extensive clinical and product testing, the most meticulous designs can still falter during and after manufacturing. Medical product recalls and unintended patient outcomes are integrated into the clinical engineering field. However, we can apply knowledge, methodologies, and expertise that will guide us towards better risk management having a lower rate of post-market unintended events, and better patient experience. This presentation will share case studies that will educate and entertain the audience while they gain an understanding of the reasons for becoming a forensic engineer expert.
